Meet our Governors
CEO of The Progress Group and Board Chair
Jayne Worthington is Progress to Excellence Group’s Deputy CEO, having joined the business in September 2019 to help drive its future growth. Before joining Progress to Excellence Group, she was Managing Director of The Growth Company – Education & Skills, the largest apprenticeship and work-related training provider in Greater Manchester. She has also worked for the City of Liverpool College as Assistant Principal and brings with her over 14 years’ experience of working in senior management roles.
Jayne has experience of adult skills training, which compliments the existing education and training companies within the group. She has also worked nationally across government departments to develop national and regional skills and employment policy and strategy and was the Leadership and Management Policy Lead at DIUS for Skills Ministers David Lammy and Lord Tony Young.
In her earlier career, Jayne was the Managing Director of a private training provider and a Director of Connexions Cumbria, after setting up and running a social enterprise organisation aimed at getting long-term unemployed people back into work.
Jayne lives near Chester with her family and when not at work tries to spend her time in Devon falling off a surfboard.
Ian brings a wealth of experience to Innovative Alliance, with a broad background focused on training, apprenticeships, and other avenues of learning. Previously, he has worked as Head of Operations at a national training provider, delivering training and apprenticeships to schools throughout the UK. Before that, he was the head of work-based learning at The City of Liverpool College. His role at Innovative Alliance, part of the Progress to Excellence Group of companies, was created as part of its current growth strategy.
Ian believes that social mobility is at the heart of what Innovative Alliance does, providing a second chance and driving the ambition that supports individuals on their journey to employment. His extensive experience in the training industry will help drive the company’s continued strategic growth plans, which will heavily focus on training and up-skilling individuals across the country.
Financial Controller, The Progress Group
Sam’s previous experience has focused on providing financial reporting for a broad range of clients in different industries, having previously worked for Grant Thorton before joining The Progress Group in 2020. Sam will utilise this experience in his position on the Innovative Alliance Board.
Sam’s role on the board is provide updates mainly on the financial health of the business, along with performance against budget and analysis for any differences, as well as considering any operational changes to improve the day-to-day activities of Innovative Alliance.
Following a career in senior leadership spanning the skills and employment services sectors, Carole now operates as a non-executive director, supporting businesses to drive strategic vision and support good growth; ensuring great governance standards.
Most recently, Carole was the very successful CEO of Babington; a Private Equity-backed independent training provider delivering quality apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships programmes. Carole was appointed Chief Executive in October 2011, having joined Babington’s Board of Directors as Chief Operating Officer in March 2011.
Carole supports the businesses to drive strategic vision and support good growth. Bringing with her a wealth of experience from a range of training settings, Carole has a keen focus on the achievement of the operational and strategic business objectives.
Previously, Carole was Operations Director for the Shaw Trust and prior to that was Director of Employability at InTraining. She has also been recognised by Ofsted (ALI) as a Quality Champion and has over 20 years’ experience at Director and Senior Management level in both private and public-sector organisations.
Carole is a motivational leader, proficient in delivery management, with proven capability in managing complex operations; to achieve exceptional performance and profitable growth.
Strategic Board Member
Simon has a passion for growing businesses through a belief in people. After many years of doing this for other people, he founded BPS World in 2001, a global recruitment organisation. Throughout his journey, he has consulted with the leadership of many businesses in helping them create a competitive advantage in the ability to attract, recruit and retain the right people.
Simon sits on the governance board of the REC as well and Chairing the Engineering the Technical sector group. In this capacity, he has also sat as an expert representative in various Governmental committees and Lords hearing commissions.
His early career began in farming, where he gained an understanding of ethics and the reward gained from growth and nurture. These fundamental principles still guide him today in the development of people to harness their true potential.
